Art, Not Apart 2016 - Joe Oppenheimer

Art, Not Apart 2016

Check out my collaboration with the super talented film-maker/writer/editor Shahriah Shadab at Art, Not Apart 2016. Filmed over one day and edited side by side, sound and film meet to create something more than the sum of its parts. The track ‘Particle Heart’ was revived as an Electro-Acoustic piece after laying in my pile of unused songs for 12 months after its composition, and I’m just blown away by how beautifully Shah’s cinematography enhances the music.

Canberra’s Art, Not Apart festival is a yearly opportunity for artists of all formats to get together and show what they’ve got. Fast becoming an integral part of the city’s burgeoning art scene, the colourful event on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin is fascinating for its wildly diverse artistic displays. With national and international artists using the festival as an opportunity to visit Canberra, festival creator David Caffery deserves all the plaudits he receives.

Some people love it and some people couldn’t stand it, and I think that’s great.

I’ve participated in the festival for the past 5 years, and hope to do so again!
